Beauty – Doesn’t STOP With Your Face

Your Skincare Routine Should Include Your Decollete, Arms and More

Beauty doesn’t end at your chin – your French face extends from your head down to your décolleté.  That is a secret of French women and…always wear an SPF.

Most of us do a good job of cleaning and moisturizing our face. However, beauty doesn’t stop with your face. A good skin care routine should also include regular care of your neck, chest, arms, hands (especially the back of your hands), legs and body. Without daily broad-spectrum sun protection and adequate moisture, these zones can quickly start to look weathered before their time.

Just as you would get a facial, many spas offer the same type of services for the body – back facials, body exfoliants and more. At home, a key rule is when you are applying creams, sun screens, exfoliants or cleansers to your face – you shouldn’t stop there. Your neck and your chest both have delicate skin that require just as much attention as your face. Think face to feet – the entire body – when developing your skin care regimen. There are also fantastic body washes, creams and more – specifically formulated for your body.

One of the best things you can do is to use a Glycolic body lotion. Glycol acid is a common component of anti-aging products, such as lotions, because it can refresh skin. It exfoliates the surface layer, making skin look smoother by promoting healthy cell growth to replace the dead skin cells. Used together with hydroquinone, a bleaching agent, it might help minimize or erase the appearance of age spots, acne discoloration or other hyperpigmentation. The glycolic acid lotion slowly gets rid of dead surface cells, allowing the bleaching agent to penetrate so that new cells are non-pigmented.

A Full Body Routine At Home Should Include:

Neck & Chest – Start buy using the same products for cleaning, exfoliating and moisturizing that you use on your face. To go a step further to see the best results – select products especially formulated for the skin in these areas since the skin on the neck and chest is thinner.

Hands – Your hands are usually exposed to weather and other elements more than any other body part. In a lot of cases, your hands age you more than anything else.  For sun spot and to reduce wrinkling, choose a product with alpha hydroxy acids as well as a good sun screen of at least 30 SPF.

Arms & Legs – Opt for a body lotion that contains lactic or glycolic acid, which chemically exfoliates the skin. Don’t forget to shave your legs regularly as it is a great exfoliant. Also many women shave their arms to get rid of the not so pretty hair and also exfoliate their arms. (Shaving is also a great exfoliant for your face – thats why men look so young). When you get out of the shower, immediately pat your legs and arms dry and apply a moisturizer to look in the moisture.

Feet – Aside from getting regular pedicures the best thing you can do is apply a lotion or cream with hydroxy acid or lactic acid to exfoliate. Let the lotion absorb for at least 10 minutes before rubbing away dead skin with a warm washcloth or pumice stone.

Other Body – Don’t stop using lotion on your legs and arms, continue to your torso, back and other areas as you can reach them.

Also, don’t stop with an at home routine, dermatologists can do wonders with lasers and many other treatments.

Whatever your routine, make it regular. That is where you will get the most benefit. A little bit of pampering isn’t just a luxury – it’s a necessity to help you look your best and delay or stop signs of aging.
